SGA INVITED BACK TO BUFFALO, MN, HIGH SCHOOL
SGA Group (SGA) principals Graham Sones and Robert Gunderson were invited to BHS Career Exploration Day, on November 18, 2024. This was the second year in a row that SGA has been asked and participated in this event.
SGA presented career information on the profession of landscape architecture to two groups of students. Approximately 35 students were in attendance. Each presentation lasted 35 minutes.
SGA spoke to topics, such as, STEM fields, what is landscape architecture, types of spaces landscape architects plan & design, “hard” and “soft’ skills needed, educational requirements, licensing and the Minnesota Board of licensing (AELSLAGID). Also discussed, were the allied fields (Architecture, Civil Engineering) that landscape architects most frequently interact with. In addition, the distinction between landscape architects, landscape designers, and landscape contractors was noted.
Personal career paths of both SGA principals were mentioned to illustrate the experience and expertise needed to practice landscape architecture in the State of Minnesota. The firm history of SGA Group, Inc. was noted to compare & contrast public vs. private practice types and opportunities for young people to enter the profession of landscape architecture.
